Our festival of “arts & ideas” celebrates all forms of creativity, whether that is expressed in the arts or in the spheres of entrepreneurship and innovation.

This year’s innovation catalyst will be business consultant Marc Willson.  Marc will present two workshops on Saturday April 28 at the Empress Event Center on N. Main.

Art as a Business  

9:00-10:30 am

This presentation will focus on helping artists and interested others with the project of establishing and growing an art-based business.



These will be short, individual 15-minute sessions with artists to discuss particular questions/issues in their operations. 


Creative Placemaking: Building the Artist Community in Fort Scott. 

2:00-3:30 pm

This presentation will be aimed at community leaders, building owners, patrons of the arts, artists, and tourism businesses.  Marc will discuss how Fort Scott can promote and develop artistic projects and businesses, creating a creative place.  Attention will be given to case studies of other communities who are doing this well. 

Marc will also be available for consultation through the day by appointment.


4:00-6:00 pm 

Marc will be available for on-site visits with local businesses for observations and suggestions for betterment of their operations.  

Our mission is to promote Fort Scott as a regional hub for arts and innovation, as well as an attractive place for artists, creators and innovators to live.

The annual festival is part of an initiative to improve the appeal of Fort Scott to those considering relocating and to improve the quality of life for those who live in Southeast Kansas. Fort Scott has resources in the areas of arts and innovation. The festival aims to inspire and encourage entrepreneurship in the region.
