Jane Campbell was born and raised in a small town in Kansas. She majored in English at Emporia State University. She has taught at the high school level since the mid 80s. When her principal decided to reward her for teaching at risk kids, he told her she could teach any class she chose. "What would you like to teach?" he asked.
Without thinking, she said, "Poetry." From then on she fell in love with reading, teaching, and writing poetry. She fell in love with the rhythms and images of the great poets and with the ways poetry opens the hearts of her students. She approaches poetry as the language of the soul.
Jane will share some of the poems that move her, exploring how they do their work as poems. These poems will provide ideas for writing exercises in which class participants will write and share their work.
